    INFLUENCE OF DRYING METHODS ON THE PROXIMATE COMPOSITION AND FIBRE FRACTIONS OF SELECTED FORAGE LEGUMES.

    ABSTRACT This study aimed to influence of drying methods on the proximate composition and fiber fractions of selected forage legumes. Two legumes were used, namely cajanus cajan and Phaselous lunatus and effects of different drying methods. The legumes were harvested 12weeks after planting, the whole samples was measured, and were divided into three equal parts for the drying methods, (Sundry, Air-dry and Oven dry) Sun dried were spread under the sun, Air dried were spread under a close ventilate area, while the oven dried were placed inside the oven, until moisture reaches 6% by using conventional moisture determination method, after which they were oven-dried at 650c to constant weight, and will be milled for chemical analysis. Lima beans had highest ASH content and pigeon pea had highest CP (Crude Protein) content when subjected to oven dry and air dry when the experiment was conducted. Based on these finding, it was made known that air dry should be used in drying of Cajanus cajan to achieve high crude protein. Sundry should be used for drying Cajanus cajan and Phaseolus lunatus to achieve good digestibility rate and sundry should be used for drying Cajanus cajan and Phaseolus lunatus.
